Tips For Selling Your Diamonds by dror klar

There may come a time when you find yourself needing to sell some jewelry. Maybe the jewelry has diamonds or other gem stones and maybe it does not.

It could be that you need some fast money or you could want to sell some of the jewelry you have that you do not wear anymore. Selling pieces that no longer appeal to you is a sensible way to get the extra cash you could use to buy some new pieces you like better.

If the jewelry you want to sell has a lot of value or not, you still want to get the most for it that you can. In selling used jewelry, you may or may not get the same amount you paid for it.

With a good quality diamond for example, if it is in an extremely abstract ring setting that might not appeal to the taste of a wide market, consider selling the diamond loose. This way the purchaser can see just the quality of the diamond itself and not be put off buying because they are distracted by an unattractive setting.

Anytime you want to sell jewelry, or loose stones, there are two things that are invaluable and almost always necessary to ensure your sale. A certificate of authenticity is a must. You should have gotten one when you purchased your jewelry or stone.

This certificate tells the retail value of the jewelry or stones at the time it was purchased, the characteristics of the diamonds or gems, verification that it is real diamonds or gems and the metal quality it may be set in. If you do not have one because it was inherited, a gift, or you bought it used and did not get a certificate, your solution is an appraisal.

An appraisal is a little different than a certificate of authenticity. An appraisal by a qualified jeweler will give you the same information as the original certificate, but it will give the current market value.

Your jewelrys value may have increased or it may have decreased. Having one or both of these documents tremendously increases the chances of getting the most for the items you are selling.

You have several options as to where you can sell your jewelry or stones. A local paper has been the best solution in the past. Selling directly to an individual will get you the most money.

Pawn shops or jewelry stores will have to resell the item and make their profit, so you are not likely to get as much there. The newest option is E bay. You will have several selling options with them and will probably be well worth checking into.
