The Allure of Pearl Earrings

Have you ever been to a party and noticed a woman wearing pearl earrings? Such a woman exudes an air of natural sophistication. She appears high class and well off. She is effortlessly self-confident because she knows she looks good, and part of that appearance is due to the timeless enhancing appeal of pearl earrings.
Pearls have long been in the same category as gold and precious stones in conjuring up visions of wealth and opulence. Once, they were rare and expensive. They had to be sourced from the sea bed by divers, often at considerable personal risk. These days they are cultured and more affordable, but they are no less beautiful for that. They are, like diamonds, one of the wonders of nature.
There is a theory that wearing two small drop earrings has the effect of enhancing the smile, as the eye of the observer is drawn from a woman's teeth to the pearls in her ears registering a subconscious image of a u-shaped smile. An alternative is to wear the short pendant style of earring which provides a beguiling frame for the face.
Teamed with a black dress, white ones have been used to great effect by celebrities in the past like Ava Gardner, and are still used in a similar way today by stars such as Sophie Dahl. The stud or drop styles are perfect for every occasion, even everyday in the workplace, whilst the more extravagant styles such as chandelier types, make an impressive accessory for a night out or special dinner date.
Traditionally, one thinks of them as white only, but in fact it is possible to obtain black, pink, blue, purple, and even green ones. They also can occur in shapes other than the traditional round globe. They can be semi-round as buttons, pear drops, and oval in shape, and can be set into gold, silver, or platinum for maximum luxurious effect.
Every woman should have at least one set in her jewel box, if not one pair for every day of the week! The incredible thing is that "nature's" earrings are no longer the preserve of the rich.
A cultured pearl is every bit as beautiful and perfect as a natural one from the sea. Pearls earrings, as well as diamonds, remain a girl's best friend.
